Cheetahs are known for their slender bodies, distinctive black tear stripes on their faces, and characteristic spotted coats. They primarily hunt small to medium-sized ungulates and are adapted for speed with large nasal passages and lungs to support rapid sprinting. Cheetahs are found in various habitats across Africa and parts of Iran but are facing habitat loss and declining prey populations.
In the summer of 2026, Whipsnade Zoo welcomed seven endangered cheetah cubs, born to sisters Amira and Zara. The playful youngsters soon began exploring their spacious enclosure, chasing one another through the long grass and providing a rare glimpse of one of the world’s fastest and most vulnerable big cats.
